Hello and welcome to the first blog for Church Alive!

Today sees the first of our online services. This is a difficult transition  for me as I am a staunch advocate of meeting together for the building up of the body of Christ,  but these are unusual times and circumstances we find ourselves in so we do the best we can rather than nothing.

I was able to Skype my parents who are on a three month lock down. It was so good to see and hear them and so with guitar in hand we worshipped, prayed and encouraged each other with uplifting scriptures.

I would like to share with you a passage of scripture from Romans 8 and what I feel the Lord is saying through it at this time.

20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of [a]corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. Romans 8: 20-25 NKJV

I don’t know about you, but I feel that humanity is being given a lesson in humility. This passage of scripture from Paul to the church in Rome who were under life threatening persecution, was one of hope. That hope was however, for those in Christ. Paul goes on to say that creation was subjected to futility.

We have seen of late how fragile and vulnerable humanity is and how our best efforts are still costing thousands of lives. Disobedience to the will of God and abuse of the gift of free will, has been the cause of many human tragedies. I am convinced that when all comes to light this will be found to be human misbehaviour.

It is in such situations that the sons of God are revealed in that our hope is not in what we can do in our flesh, but what we can do as Spirit filled children of God.

Death and the grave were defeated by Jesus at Calvary so fear of such has no place in us. Our hope is firmly fixed on the finished work of the cross that has gained us eternity with our Saviour Jesus Christ.  We have that joy in us that no matter the outcome our end is glorious.

It is with this in mind that I encourage you in the Lord to remain full of hope and joy and ever ready to give an account to all who ask why you are so confident.

May the blessing of God be poured out upon you and your households and the peace of God reign in your hearts,

Love to you all,

Pastor David.
